Everything/Everything

by Jenny Nix

Everything

Words meant for paper swirl in my head

Write me down, write me down, before you are dead

Share with others they can’t hear inside

If a meteor crashes in space does it really collide?

What if I was studied like Emily or Edgar

Each word with a meaning forever and ever

When they swirl like this what they don’t know

Is that they are organic, like flowers that grow

Dissect all you want to see what I mean

The spin of the words is not a part like my spleen

So this is the voice that says put it on paper for others

The other voice booms to send me under the covers

But the boom is a whisper loud and insistent

Gives me advice unsolicited------ very persistent

Last month of the year it said be still

Listen to me, be patient, I promise this is real

It knew, (a he I think) that I was on the run

Everyday always from the time I was begun

Shh,,,,,, be still just wait like a deer in the woods

Pause, soak up beauty and give a rest to the shoulds.

How do you know what you want he said

You think that your dream will be invented by your head?

I stopped and I listened in my chest felt the heat

In my ears and my throat, there it was, the guiding beat

Everything, everything as the Femmes would say

Everything all of it comes over to play

Be quiet be patient rest for a moment

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh be still
